| About Me | " I am a performer and teacher who graduated from Azusa Pacific University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Vocal Performance. I have taught private lessons and groups since college, at student homes, my home, churches, and schools. I have been performing since I was five years old, beginning with dance, and eventually adding piano (age 8), flute (age 9), voice (age 10), and musical theater (age 14). I love to perform, and I love to pass on that joy, knowledge, and experience, to any who want to learn and experience the amazing transformation that happens when music enters one's life. My teaching method begins with assessing a student's prior knowledge, present ability, and desired outcomes. Once that assessment is complete, I begin teaching the basics from whatever level he or she is at. I start with a traditional framework using classical technique and repertoire on all instruments, often utilizing method books and other progressive teaching aides. From there I tailor each lesson to each student, both in ability and goals; the student has input regarding musical styles, songs, and techniques emphasized during instruction. I have high expectations and standards for my students, but I will do everything in my power to help them achieve them. I teach with a balance of authority, mentorship, and friendship." |
